Indian companies usually meet Bitcoin in one of three ways: a founder who already holds it, a vendor pitching ASICs as “treasury,” or a board that saw a headline.
Only one of those should drive a Bitcoin treasury decision.
I work this problem as a Bitcoin Treasury Consultant in India and Founder of NexusArc.
Treasury is a policy, not a purchase
A treasury position answers:
- Why we hold Bitcoin (reserve, savings, strategic optionality)
- How much, over what horizon
- Who can move it, and how we recover keys
- How we report it to the board, auditors, and the CA
- What we will not do (leverage, altcoins, unsupervised exchange balances)
If the first artefact is a miner quotation, you are not doing treasury. You are being sold operations.
Split mining from the reserve
Running ASICs is a business with electricity, heat, downtime, and depreciating hardware. Holding Bitcoin is a balance-sheet choice.
I wrote this out in Bitcoin mining for companies: operations vs treasury. The short version: policy first. Machines only if power works.
A practical sequence for an Indian company
- Education for leadership — one room, no retail noise. A workshop or a short briefing.
- Mandate — risk budget, liquidity needs, who decides.
- Custody design — exchange is not a vault. Hardware, collaborative custody, or an institutional venue with clear control.
- Execution — DCA or a structured buy, with a sweep rule.
- Only then ask whether mining at your tariff is cheaper than buying. Use the mining consultancy path. Most commercial tariffs still lose.
What I will not do
- Promise a return
- Treat GST-clear hardware as a substitute for policy
- Pretend this is regulated investment advice — your counsel and CA stay in the room
Where the work is contracted
A Treasury Sprint for a company or family office can start on this site. Larger, energy-linked, or multi-entity mandates are NexusArc engagements.
If you want the conversation: contact with the city and whether this is a board, a promoter, or a finance lead.
Educational content. Not financial, tax, or legal advice.
